12/20/2023 0 Comments Swatch automatic watches![]() That means the MoonSwatch measures 42mm in diameter and has the same 13.58mm height. Thankfully though, it’s been done in the best way possible, in my opinion, using bioceramic for the case and honoring the Speedmaster Professional’s exact dimensions. If Swatch had used steel or aluminum, for example, or just a regular Swatch case with some references to Omega’s Moonwatch, the final product could have missed the mark. When I saw all 11 MoonSwatch watches, I realized that this project could have easily been a disaster. When the rocket shakes and rumbles, these arrow-shaped hands are easier for human eyes to focus on. They have this shape to enhance visibility for the astronauts. The rocket hands, just like those on Omega’s Speedmaster Alaska Project watches, are inspired by NASA’s Mercury rocket. It is a fully red bioceramic Omega × Swatch Speedmaster with a white bezel, a white dial, and the famous red rocket hands. There’s yellow for the Sun, dark gray for Mercury, pink for Venus, green for the Earth, light gray for the Moon, red for Mars, khaki for Jupiter, taupe for Saturn, light blue for Uranus, blue for Neptune, and light gray with a burgundy panda dial for Pluto.Įach of the journalists could pick their favorite version, and needless to say, I have the “Mission to Mars” MoonSwatch here. ![]() The color of each model’s bioceramic case corresponds with an interpretation of its celestial inspirator. In total, there are 11 models of the MoonSwatch available, with each one representing a planet, star, or satellite in our solar system. As we’re pretty fond of Speedmasters ourselves here at Fratello, let’s have a look at this new MoonSwatch and tell you what we think of it.Ī week before this official introduction, Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek, together with Omega CEO Raynald Aeschlimann and Swatch CEO Carlo Giordanetti, invited us to come to Biel in Switzerland where they surprised us (and a select group of other journalists) with a collab that nobody expected to happen. A watch made of bioceramic (a unique mix of two-thirds ceramic and one-third material derived from castor oil) that looks very similar to the famous and iconic Moonwatch by Omega. Swatch claims that the accuracy rating of the Sistem51 movement is within -5/+15 seconds per day with a +/-10 seconds variable fluctuation depending on factors such as temperature.Meet the Omega × Swatch Speedmaster MoonSwatch. Since ETA does not provide this movement to the public (it is currently only available to brands within the Swatch Group) there is no way to order a replacement, unless you can source a parts watch on the secondary market – for example, at the time of this post there was a movement with dial being offered on eBay for around $11.00 USD. For these reasons, the caliber Sistem51 is considered to be a disposable movement. Of course, this would be completely dependent on what precisely is in need of fixing, and if you can find a watchmaker willing to do such repairs. The Sistem51 is hermetically sealed (aka permanently sealed) also not designed to be a repairable movement. “The high-tech escapement has no regulator the rate is set at the factory with a laser, making the manual rate adjustments normally required by a mechanical watch unnecessary.” In Swatch’s marketing materials, they say: The rate is set by lasers at the factory during assembly. Therefore, the rate cannot be increased or decreased manually. The Sistem51 movement does not have a regulator on what Swatch calls their “high-tech” escapement. In previous Swatch press-releases, they mentioned Nicolaus Copernicus and his model of the universe demonstrating that the sun is at the center. The entire movement has a single screw in which the entire assembly is centrally based on. The Swatch caliber Sistem51 movement consists of 51 parts, one of which is a screw. ![]() “Sistem51’s movement is made entirely of ARCAP, an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc with exceptional anti-magnetic qualities.” One Screw “100% Swiss made on a 65-foot-long automated assembly line in clean-room conditions, without human intervention.” Materials Swatch claims that Sistem51 assembly is the first and only mechanical movement with a fully-automated watch manufacturing process. Even the digital printing of the patterns and designs on the rotor (and other parts) is a completely automated process. ![]() The Sistem51 is 100% assembled by machines at ETA’s factory in Bancourt, Switzerland. 100 percent Swiss Made, featuring a self-winding movement with only 51 parts and an exceptional 90 hour power reserve, SISTEM51 continues to be a top seller.” Made by Robots SISTEM51 extends its reach into the innovative depths of the movement itself, now across more exciting models than ever before.
